It may be hard for many of you out there to spend more money on cat food. Not everyone was born with a silver spoon in their mouths and it can be hard enough to properly feed your family, let alone your cats. Actually, the Special Kitty PLAIN canned cat food was recommended by my vet. The plain varieties (meaning pate only..no gravy), have no fillers or grains. Grains are carbs that cats do not need in their diets. A protein-only diet for cats is natural for them, and will result in LESS feces production, and fewer hairballs and regurgitation issues. (Not to mention the stains on carpets caused by regurging dry cat food dyes!) Ash and grains are a concern in most ALL dry foods except for the most expensive high-end brands, like Iams and Science Diet. It is perfectly acceptable to buy the least expensive cat food....so long as you read the label and avoid those that have grains and fillers. When most all major brand cat foods were recalled for salmonella a couple years ago, it was directly linked to contaminated GRAIN used as a filler...only those products containing no grain escaped the recall.
