What exactly is flushable cat litter? Well, to keep it quite simple flushable cat litter is a type of cat litter that you can flush down the drain. Using this kind of cat litter can have many benefits. There are many cat owners that swear by this litter but is it really safe to flush? How much of of it can your flush without causing any type of plumbing problems? These are all legitimate questions that you could be asking yourself if you are considering switching to this form of cat litter. In this post we will be discussing whether or not it is worth using flushable cat litter and if it is really safe to flush.

It can not be denied that flushable litter is definitely much more convenient than the generic litter that has to be scooped out and thrown into the trash. Anyone who owns cats knows what cat wastes smells like, no one enjoys cleaning out the cat litter box and certainly not throwing it into the trash where it can cause a putrid odor throughout your home. This means that you would need to have a special place to hold the waste, either outside or in the garage. It seems that it can be a lot of work to simply keep a litter box fresh and clean. This is why flushable cat litter was invented, to help make your life a little bit easier and help your home smell a little better. After all, it is much easier to simple flush the cat waste down the drain than it is to dispose of it in any other way.

Flushable cat litter was originally created for automatic cat litter boxes, or as I like to call it, the lazy man's litter box. All jokes aside, it only makes sense that if a litter box was created to help make cleaning out a litter box easier then it is only logical that the next step would be to make the disposal of the actual litter more convenient. This doesn't mean that you can't simply use the flushable litter in an ordinary litter box. You can use it anywhere that you'd like.

The only difference between regular litter and flushable litter is that the latter is made to be more biodegradable and is supposed to disintegrate as you flush it. This means that you are not only making your life easier but also helping out mother nature. Think about what it actually is that you are flushing down the toilet. A mixture of cat feces and urine clumped together with cat litter. Now we know that the waste can be flushed so the only thing that would stand to be an issue would be if the cat litter would cause a problem in the drains. This is simply not the case.

What does all of this mean? According to everything that I have read about flushable cat litter it is far better than any other type of litter. It is better for you. It is better for the people around you, they won't have to smell that awful litter box smell. You will be much more likely to scoop out dirty litter if you need only flush it down the drain, so it is better for your cat. Best of all it is better for the environment since flushable cat litter is more biodegradable than other types. It seems to be a win win win win situation. Of course, you will probably need to pay a bit more for the convenience of this kind of litter but if you are willing to do so, there are no problems, right?

To be fair, as I was researching flushable litter, I did come across some negative feedback. Personally, I think that switching to flushable cat litter is a great idea and I plan to do it but... In order to give a full picture of everything that there is to know about it, I will briefly go over the flaws that I read about this new type of cat litter.

If have read a dew bad reviews on flushable cat litter as a whole. There are a few issues that are listed that could be valid and you should know about them before you make a choice whether or not to switch brands. I have read that this type of litter doesn't clump and hold together as well as regular cat litter. This is probably because, in order for the it to properly flush, the litter needs to be able to break up. If not it would be much harder to get it all through the pipes. This leads me to another issue that I read about. Some people were complaining that the litter wouldn't go down with just one flush and that this worried them. They were afraid that it would eventually clog up the drain and back up their toilet. The last problem that I noticed complaints about was that flushable cat litter was not very good for septic tanks and would cause a back up of waste.

I am not sure how true all of these complaints are. I read much more good feedback than bad feedback when I was reading about this new cat litter. Personally, I am going to try it and see for myself. If I notice that it is a bit harder to get down the drain as I thought, I will probably stop using it or try another brand. Maybe I will try out a few brands and write a post about it, you know, save you guys a little bit of time... Ultimately, the only way to find out if the stuff really works is to try it out yourself.
