Blue mitted ragdoll kittens and cats are a popular breed of feline in the United States. They were introduced in the 60s by breeder Ann Baker. This cat was a non-pedigreed female domestic long-haired Persian and Angora style. After it was in a car accident, Baker discovered her cat was pregnant by one of several Burmese cats. The feline gave birth to a litter of unusually large Himalayan style kittens with sparkling eyes and an easygoing temperament.
Many owners who enjoy this type of feline have enjoyed its puppy-like attitude. The kittens, and then the cats, will escort their owners around the house, chase and retrieve small items and want to be around people more like their dog friends. These types of kittens are also very agreeable to being trained for simple commands and even going to the bathroom on the toilet.
This cat became popular not only because of its beauty, but because of its easy-going temperament. They are an intelligent breed that is curious and very social. Because of this, they like to be around their people; however they will go off on their own and entertain themselves rather quietly.
This cat is a larger breed with the males ranging anywhere from 13 to 22 pounds and the females somewhat smaller but still large for a cat at almost 10 pounds. There have been reports of smaller and larger cats in this breed but that is rare and depends on the bloodline. Their temperament has always been that of a calm and docile animal.
Although they do not shed as much as most cats, they will take a little more grooming time because of their long hair. Their undercoat and belly has shorter hair, covered by their long hair which is the main reason for the low shedding. Bi-weekly brushing is recommended for your cat to maintain its beauty and keep the matting to a minimum.
A blue mitted ragdoll cat or kitten would be a fun and affectionate companion for any aged individual but especially an elderly individual. These cats love attention and an elderly person who is home more and can provide the attention these cats crave would make an ideal pairing. They are fairly low-maintenance and eat a normal cat diet.
