Starting dachshund puppy training
When starting the training, arm yourself with lots of persistence, consistency, firmness and above all, love. Remember that your puppy is an animal with different instincts and also a different manner of evaluating things. The dog needs to be in a position to evaluate you and discover a pack leader. If he doesn't, you can be sure that with the dachshund's take-charge personality, he'll try (and end up) the dominant dog.
Exercising your dog
Dachshunds must be active to enable them to spend their extra energies and you can help them do that by taking them outside for walks. Work with a puppy leash to help keep them exactly where they need to be. If you prefer, use a harness or a retractable leash to gain much more control.
Potty training
Your puppy will really need to relieve himself around six times each day. Immediately after a meal, take your puppy outside to eliminate however bring him to the spot where you want him to do it. If he does, provide him with lots of praise. If you keep your puppy in a kennel crate, do the same in the morning then permit him to play before his first meal. Repeat the elimination exercise then put the puppy inside the crate once more. About an hour later, bring him out to eliminate. He will learn with time that he should do his business whenever taken outside.
Do not force the puppy to eliminate, however. If he does not simply bring him back inside, wait awhile then take him back once more. Repeat this process until he's housebroken. The process holds true even with newspaper training indoors.
Obedience training
Train your puppy using short sessions of 10 to 15 minutes but do it regularly, say 2 to 3 times each day. Always reinforce good behavior using treats or praise and also be firm about bad behavior. Over time, using this dachshund puppy training your dog will learn all the good behaviors you want it to obtain.
