Dog Training: Why Dogs Don't Come When Called

Bookmark and Share
By Dirk Gruenberg

One of the most important commands you will ever teach your dog is to come when you call him. There are many conceivable situations in which you might choose to call your dog. The obvious one would be that he is playing, and you need to go home.

But there are also other -potentially dangerous- situations in which you might need to call your dog. His ability to listen to your command and respond properly by coming to you could then even safe his life!

To make sure this never happens, we need to teach our dog to respond properly to our command. How do we do this? First of all, ALWAYS be cheerful when your dog comes to you - and reward him for it! He has to feel that coming to you is the most wonderful thing in the world.

With that being said, it is actually quite easy to make mistakes when calling your dog - mistakes that would want him to NOT come to you. Here's the two biggest:

Mistake number one: We are out and about, our dog is running around freely off the leash, we call him, but he doesn't respond right away. Yet, after what seems like forever he decides to come to us.

However, by now we are quite upset. After all, we had told him to come three minutes ago, but he wouldn't listen and took forever to come. Intuitively we might want to scold him for his slow response.

But beware: We just discussed the importance of being happy when our dog comes to us. Scolding him would be the exact opposite - something our dog would always remember with great displeasure.

The second mistake: This mistake is quite similar to mistake number one. But in a way, it is more vicious, because we often make it without even being aware of it. Let's say our dog is running around, we call him, and he responds. We greet him happily (excellent!), but we are in a hurry, and so home we go.

Beware: This might not be a big deal to us, but it might be interpreted as a punishment by our dog. Because, keep in mind, he was just having a wonderful time. Then you called him, and he came, and going home puts a stop to having fun! Instead: Play with him for a few more minutes, then put him on the leash (without calling him), and walk home.

Blue Mitted Ragdoll Unique Cats

Bookmark and Share
By Gladys Holland

Blue mitted ragdoll kittens and cats are a popular breed of feline in the United States. They were introduced in the 60s by breeder Ann Baker. This cat was a non-pedigreed female domestic long-haired Persian and Angora style. After it was in a car accident, Baker discovered her cat was pregnant by one of several Burmese cats. The feline gave birth to a litter of unusually large Himalayan style kittens with sparkling eyes and an easygoing temperament.

Many owners who enjoy this type of feline have enjoyed its puppy-like attitude. The kittens, and then the cats, will escort their owners around the house, chase and retrieve small items and want to be around people more like their dog friends. These types of kittens are also very agreeable to being trained for simple commands and even going to the bathroom on the toilet.

This cat became popular not only because of its beauty, but because of its easy-going temperament. They are an intelligent breed that is curious and very social. Because of this, they like to be around their people; however they will go off on their own and entertain themselves rather quietly.

This cat is a larger breed with the males ranging anywhere from 13 to 22 pounds and the females somewhat smaller but still large for a cat at almost 10 pounds. There have been reports of smaller and larger cats in this breed but that is rare and depends on the bloodline. Their temperament has always been that of a calm and docile animal.

Although they do not shed as much as most cats, they will take a little more grooming time because of their long hair. Their undercoat and belly has shorter hair, covered by their long hair which is the main reason for the low shedding. Bi-weekly brushing is recommended for your cat to maintain its beauty and keep the matting to a minimum.

A blue mitted ragdoll cat or kitten would be a fun and affectionate companion for any aged individual but especially an elderly individual. These cats love attention and an elderly person who is home more and can provide the attention these cats crave would make an ideal pairing. They are fairly low-maintenance and eat a normal cat diet.

How are Fossils Formed of Once Living Things

Bookmark and Share
By Stephen Mason

A number of people are curious about the earth and the organism that live within it. The planet is very old and numerous beings have stayed and deceased. We can learn from the creatures that have lived before by studying their remains. An interesting area of study is how are fossils formed and what is means to science.

Matters that are new to them intrigue kids. They have several important questions and are fascinated by things that are different from what they see every day. When they see an astonishingly beautiful flower, they become intrigued by how it got that way and other fascinating facts about the flower.

Adults, too, have curiosity about the unknown. In fact, some go into the fields of science like botany and geology to figure out the life of plants and rocks and study parts of the unknown for the rest of their lives. Some individuals can make great discoveries in these fields that help others to understand the natural world better.

The question what happens to things when they die is one of the curiosities of the world. It is true that cultures have different burial habits and rituals. It is believed that some animals such as elephants are evolved enough to mourn and bury their dead like the humans. Some traditions take care of the remains of people and animals that die by burying and sometimes cremating the bodies.

There are times when people lose their lives and they are far away from their culture. It could be the hiker who was caught in a mudslide or the mountain climber that happened to be on the peak that suddenly erupted with lava. Chance might have it that they were at the wrong place at the wrong time.

For fossilization to take place it generally takes a great deal of chance. In most cases, the person or creature that is laid to rest in the mud would just decompose like normal. However, if the mud carries the appropriate amount of clay or tar and it covers the body enough, it can harden and retain the remains. The covering of the body protects it from the elements that would oxidize it and cause it to decay.

This can also happen to pests that get stuck in the sap of a tree. The sap can trap the bug and over time toughen and become petrified which makes it as hard as rock under the right conditions. The insect will of course die but its body will be able to be studied years and years later in almost the same form as it was the moment that it died.

Museums often set up exhibits to explain to visitors the concept of finding the remains of people and creatures from long ago. Once one understands the concept of preserving and protecting things from the elements it is easier to understand how are fossils developed. Another way to obtain the state of fossilization is freezing People will likely continue to try to understand and try to find uses for creatures who have been preserved in this rare form.

Treating Dog Hot Spots

By Jennifer Gretson

You will know that your dog's skin has been inflamed when you see dog hot spots all over it. These appear as red moist patches that can either be concentrated on one portion alone or appear as scattered areas on the dog's skin. In the medical field, the condition is more commonly known as moist dermatitis.

There are telling signs that can alert you if your pet has dog hot spots. Among them is excessive itching.

These red patches on the skin are often already irritated or infect that it would be extremely itchy for the dogs. It might also sting a bit and the only way dogs can relieve of the discomfort is by either scratching on it or licking it excessively.

What you can do is shave off the entire area where the dog hot spots appear. Doing this is important because even if you bring your dog to the vet, this would have to be done. It is the best way for the spot to get treated. Shaving would also allow you to see just how much damage there is already so you can immediately apply the needed treatment.

When the area has already been shaved off, you should then proceed to cleansing the wound. Even if you have only seen red patches, you should still take the time to cleanse it to prevent from further infections. You can use a gentle skin cleanser to wash out the dirt and kill the bacteria from the area. This can also help alleviate the itchiness from the area.

After cleansing the affected spots, you can apply some cold compress on the wound for two to four times every day until it heals or becomes pinkish. Aside from a cold compress, you can also use tea bag compresses to help disinfect the area much further and speed up the drying process of wounds.

If you also want to keep your dog from scratching the affected areas during the healing period, it would be best to make them wear an Elizabethan collar. This way, they would not be prompted to scratch at the areas and further infections can also be avoided.

Always keep an eye on the dog hot spots especially if your pet has not been seen by a vet yet. If the areas still cease to heal for more than 2 days, you should already bring your dog to the vet immediately. They will be prescribed some antibiotics to stop the growth of bacteria as well as topical medications to soothe the dog hot spots

By Joe Maldonado

Dog training can be fun and exciting if done in the right way, but that doesn't mean there's not going to be some hard times along the way. A lot of people who want to train their dog usually have a problem of where and how to start the process. The arrival of the new puppy brings excitement and happiness to the whole household. Very soon, he will become the center of attraction for the whole family. It also means that there are lots of works for you to do in terms of bringing out the best in the dog's behavior. There are several ways to train a dog, but a few simple tips and steps if followed properly will go a long way in bringing you success.

Potty training: dogs are creatures that easily form habits. All animals including your dog don't know where or when it's right or wrong to go to the toilet. Naturally, when they fill like doing it, they do it. It is your responsibility to communicate with them and help them develop the habit of doing it at the place that is more convenient. Closely monitoring the dog will help in knowing their toilet habits and prevent any kinds of mistakes, you also needed to open your back doors often. Know that puppies are young animals, they can only hold on an hour for every one moth of their life.

Crate training: this is one of the most important things to consider when trying to manage and train a puppy in the household, and assure well-being and safety. It also helps in preventing a possible problem behavior before it becomes obvious. Crate training is also the best way to train your puppy on how to go to the toilet, chew on the toys given to them and not other dangerous items, and to establish good habits. First you need to select the right crate for your puppy. You introduce the crate to them by dropping item in and around it. When your puppy is outside, put a chew toy inside and close the door. It should naturally beg you to open it. Open it and let him in. Then praise his effort.

Behavior training: behavior training is closely related to crate training. To achieve behavior training you need to start by placing the crate at an area where you and your dog usually met to communicate, and make sure you leave the caret door open. Whenever you notice that your puppy shows interest in the crate throw him a taste threat, this will make the dog have more interest in the crate. Then after a while don't give a threat for just a look, but an actual walking into the crate. When the puppy start popping in and out of the crate don't praise him again until he actually enters and sits own in the crate. The final step is to make the dog enter the crate and sit down while you close the door. Attach a cue word to the process like bedtime and repeat severally, until the dog maters it. Repetitions and reinforcement is the key in installing behavior in dog training.

Fundamental Puppy Training Through A Collection Of Easy Actions

Bookmark and Share
By Ramon Knight

How does your dog sit when you tell him to and mine doesn't? What's the secret to making your dog heel to you like that? It is a familiar thing to see him coming when you instruct him to. You can decrease the time spent on dog training. It is important that you begin training your dog as soon as you can while it is still a puppy, because this will enable you to mold the behavior that you want from your dog for many years to come.

The first things you must teach your dog to do are to come when called and to sit on command. Teaching him those commands are essential for him to learn. These commands are used for various different reasons, if you are in competition, if your dog jumps making him sit will immediately get him off and "come" is the all important one. If you take your dog for a walk, you let him of the leash and you expect him to come back to you, not run around the park with you chasing after him shouting at him to "get here right this instance". That would be so humiliating!

To teach your dog how to come requires only the most basic of techniques but a lot of repetition. The simplest way to get him to come is have a toy in one hand and a treat in the other, when you are in the house simply walk away from him, hold out the toy and excitingly call him to you, when he comes over give him a treat, always use the command for come that you are going to use in the future. Doing this a few times a day is an excellent way to teach him, however remember to have lots of breaks so that he does not become bored and loses interest, and most of all don't forget the treats!

Learning a sit command still falls under the fundamentals of dog training even though it may be a bit more difficult for your dog to learn. When you have mastered the come command call him to you, place your hand on the end of his back and say "sit" while gently pushing down on his backside, when he sits his bottom down give him a treat and a lot of praise. If you want him to sit longer just delay giving him the treat and the praise, get him to sit but take your time bending down to him and feeding him his tidbit.

Basic dog training is simple and very effective. You and your dog should enjoy it and keep it quick, five minutes a day or so should be enough. You should never forget to reward both yourself and your dog for all the tough work!

Buy a Rabbit Hutch and a Rabbit for the Kids

Bookmark and Share
By Peter Clark

If your kids are pestering you for a pet then one of the best options you have for a child friendly pet is a rabbit. Rabbits are cheap to buy, are cheap to feed, easy to keep and don't live for 15 or 20 years like your average cat or dog. So you won't have to look after the pet after the kids leave home.

It's not hard to find places to buy pet rabbits, just head down to your local pet shop or ask around amongst people at your child's school and you'll probably find someone with a few baby rabbits for sale.

Of course getting a rabbit isn't just about buying your rabbit. You will also need a rabbit hutch in which to keep your rabbit, however it's not that difficult to build a rabbit hutch, and not that expensive to buy one.

If you're looking to build a hutch then it is relatively simple to do so with some simple tools, some simple materials and a little handyman skill.

There are some disputes about the minimum size that a simple rabbit hutch should be. The size depends primarily on the size that your rabbit will grow as different breeds grow to varying sizes. However it is important that your rabbit hutch be wide enough for your rabbit to stretch out when lying down, to hop around a little and a turn around. For this reason it be high enough to allow your rabbit to stand on his hind legs.

My preference is always to opt for a bigger hutch rather than a smaller one, as I hate to see a rabbit cooped up in hutches that are only a couple of feet long. For one rabbit I would opt for a minimum length of 6 feet and preferably longer.

And remember of course that that is just to house your rabbit, you also need room for him to run around and this can be achieved in a number of different ways. You can build him a rabbit run to play in during the day, which is preferably large enough to allow him to hop around on the grass but which also allows you to move it around from time to time.

It's perfectly possible to keep a rabbit outdoors, however my preference is always indoors. Keeping your rabbit away from extreme heat or cold is always a nice way to keep him happy, and a happy rabbit makes a better pet.

So before you buy a rabbit spend a little time researching what is available to buy for his housing and his run, or spend a little time designing a simple rabbit hutch and get going building him a rabbit house, then buy your rabbit and you have a wonderful pet for your children.

Tips On Raising Goats For Milk Successfully

Bookmark and Share
By Ted Allen

The demand for goat milk has been increasing especially now that people see its advantages over cow milk. For one, the fat in goat milk is more soluble or easier to digest. This makes it a more preferred drink for people with absorption-weak intestines like babies. Dairy products derived from goat milk, such as cheese have also increased in number. Raising goats for milk is an important consideration among breeders to ensure that the animals produce milk as often as possible.

Like cows, certain factors must be taken into account when one aims to cultivate goats for milk. First, determine which breed of goat to buy. The Saanen is the best when raising goats for milk. This breed produces the highest amounts of milk. Alpine comes in second. But if you cannot afford the expensive breeds, at least do not settle for a low-quality one. Milk quality and quantity are affected by breed, as some goats produce less when in unfavorable climate.

The regular duration of lactation of a doe is pegged at 305 days. However, some fall short due to the onset of estrus or when they are in heat. You may keep a record of the lactation schedule of your goats in order to monitor the days they can be milked to maximize profits. Be wary as well when to breed your does with the bucks. Fixing your calendar on when to mate your animals is important when raising goats for milk. There are seasons when kidding goats produce more milk, such as during early spring.

Building a safe shelter for your animals is also important as the weather plays a role in milk production. Some breeds produce less when subjected to extreme heat or cold. Make sure that you have control in the temperature because a sudden change in it can make the animals sick. Administering drugs for example ruins your plan on raising goats for milk. The goats catching illness is the last thing you would want to happen because it can cause complications. As much as possible, do not treat a sick lactating doe with drugs because the milk might get contaminated.

Have the goats play as well to ensure their health. This will affect positively the quality of milk they produce. Avoid stressing them or hurting them physically. Always keep the barn clean and tidy to prevent the accumulation of bacteria.Clean the teats well to ensure germ-free milk.

Proven Tips To Stop Your Cat from Waking You up

One of the most common cat behavior problems is also one of the most frustrating. It is when they wake you up way too early in the morning.

While you may really love having a new kitten around, sometimes it can test our patience because we simply want to get a full and restful night of sleep.

Cats are most active at dusk and dawn due to evolution. These are the prime hunting times and thus they are most active at these times of days.

While this may have worked great for felines in the past, today's felines have to live in a house with us.

So what is the new kitten owner to do to prevent this problem?

Here are some solutions for you to try to keep your cat quiet and allow you and your husband to get a full and restful night of sleep.

First of all, don't let your cat take naps in the late afternoon or in the evening. At this time you should try and keep your pet as active as possible and playing with toys. The more energy they expend now the longer they'll sleep in the morning.

Second of all, you have to be careful not to reinforce your cat's behavior. Many pets will wake up their owners early because they know they will be petted and given attention. If your cat knows it will receive no attention or negative attention in the form of being locked up into a different room, most will quickly change their behavior.

Lastly, in extreme cases you may even want to lock the cat up in another room every night. But in most cases kittens usually grow out of this phase once they realize that it only puts their owners in a bad mood.

So if you do find that your cat is waking you up at night try some of these tips. Remember to have hope, because this is a very common phase that almost all cats go through, but eventually they will get over it.

Dogs are referred to as man's best friends not with no reasons. Because they appear to be wired for companionship, a pet dog can provide much required comfort and love. And they in return will also require lots of love, attention and encouragement. This aside, there will be sometimes when you will have to leave your pet - in the first instance for short durations of time.

Training your pets to cope with this is essential for developing a healthy pet/owner bond. If you should leave your pet for a longer time, services like Bowhill Boarding Kennels Brisbane are professionals that will assist your pet to cope and grow through your absence.

Understanding the instinctive character of dogs goes a long way to be able to change their behavior. Dogs seem to have a universal sense of energy - it's almost like they sense our emotions. They respond to this energy in both bad and good ways. For example if we cuddle our pets every time they come to us; play a game every time they want; or give in to their endless cries; the energy they get from us is that they are the leaders.

To a dog, the important role of the leader is to protect their pack. So if they sense like they are in charge, when you leave them they might get anxious and be concerned for you. This may cause barking, crying, and chewing on the furniture. It's vital that your dog knows who's in charge. You have to change the energy in the relationship. For instance, do not surrender to your dog's cries or bad behavior. In fact do not even react in any way if your dog does not listen to you at first. Because you are changing the energy, it may take a while before your dog understands what the correct behavior is. The rest certainly is to reward your pet when it behaves well.

Part of being the leader of the pack is to be calm and assertive. Giving off this energy will lead your pet to compliment you by behaving submissive and calm. As dogs are instinctively obedient, one of the finest places to learn this is with socializing with other pets. Getting dogs together in a healthy environment is amazing way to enable instinct to teach. Businesses like Bowhill Boarding Kennels Brisbane offer great facilities that allow dogs to communicate under controlled situations. This teaches the dogs the basics of being part of a pack so when you come back from vacations they will be more expected to accept you as the leader. Approach them with a calm and assertive attitude and you will be well on your way to getting back balance in your home.

Geese Farming - What To Expect And When To Start When Raising Geese

Bookmark and Share
By Andrew Grey

Raising geese is one of the most highly notable endeavors in the industry of farming. It may be hard at first, but then again most farming activities are hard. Indeed, geese farming is something that must be tried, if only to experience the joy that comes with it.Raising geese, however, has a string of rewards that no other poultry-related business or hobby can offer.

The basics of geese farming first involves the choosing of the right goose breed that will match one's intention for raising and rearing geese in the first place. There are goose breeds that are better for hobby purposes, and there are some that are ideal for profit-making. There are so many goose species out there, but the most commonly found ones are the following breeds: the African breed, the Egyptian breed, the Chinese breed, the Pilgrim breed, the Emden breed, and the Toulouse breed. The Sebaspatol breed as well as the Canadian breed and the Buff breed are also quite popular in geese farming. Each of these goose breeds has advantages and disadvantages. It is best to find out the features of each of these breeds in order to know which one fits your liking.

Before you get around to actually raising geese, there are some questions you need to take into account. How big should the breeding and rearing area be? Where should you keep the geese? Of course, geese farming must be done in a wide track of land. About an acre - or more if possible - is considered good enough by poultry experts, but only if the geese to be raised do not exceed twenty.

Otherwise, it's highly suggested to transfer somewhere with a bigger land area. This space needs to have shelter for the geese, particularly for the eggs once the first pair of gander and goose starts to breed. The eggs will come quickly, and they need to be kept somewhere that's free from insects, mice and other pests, and away from extreme temperatures.

Now, once the eggs are hatched, geese farming will involve food options for the young ones. Grass can be introduced into their diet after two weeks. In the interval, poultry food can be given. The first thing that comes to mind is grass, but veterinarians actually discourage grass for newly hatched geese. Water is very important, and only fresh water should be given. Water from a pond or a stream is most welcome.

Airline Pet Carry-On Tips

Bookmark and Share
By Luke Blaise

More and more people are requiring that they be allowed to take their pets on board with them into the passenger cabin on airplanes. This is likely because many people like to treat their dog and cats as a part of the family and not as some piece of cargo.

In preparation for your next plane flight with your pet, here are some carry-on tips to help make your flight easier.

First of all, made sure the carrier meets the proper carry on requirements. Different airlines have different requirements, for example, Southwest airline requirements are 22" x 14" x 9".

Second, you should try and book a direct flight if possible. The less time that you spend with your pet in the airport waiting for your flight the better for your animal and for you.

Third, you should make sure that your pet has a collar with an ID tag on it that clearly identifies who to contact in case of emergency. Although you will maintain your pet at all times, there is ever a slight chance the two of you could become separated.

Fourth of all, if your trip is scheduled to last for more then four hours you might want to bring some food along and some canned food. Remember if you're bringing moist food along, it should be no bigger than 3 ounces because of FAA regulations.

And lastly, you should always have your dog or cat checked out by a veterinarian first. Changes in altitude and the stress of traveling might be too much for some older animals. Also while you're at the veterinary clinic check and see if you need a health certificate for your dog or cat as well.

While at the veterinary clinic, you may also want to discuss whether or not your pet will need to be sedated since you're taking them into the cabin as a carry-on.

If you need more information on pet carry-on requirements for airplanes, talk to the company that you're flying with, since each airline has their own special requirements. The most important thing is to start planning well in advance to have everything ready.

For Yorkshire terriers grooming is one of the most important things. If you have a Yorkshire terrier puppy, then you have to make sure that you regularly groom them so that they look and feel their best. This will have a great impact on their behavior since by grooming them and taking care of them you will be helping to keep their self-esteem and confidence high.

In its turn, this will affect how they interact with other pets, people and dogs and so it is an important part of raising them in general. It is a great idea to introduce your dog to the professional grooming at an early age so that they become used to it and learn to enjoy this, however not dread it.

In addition, you need to keep in mind that grooming your Yorkshire terrier depends on whether you have a pet of show quality Yorkie since this will determine how often you will have to groom them.

Bathing is another important part of Yorkshire terrier grooming, especially if you keep their coat long. In this case you need to bathe your dog at least once every two weeks. While bathing your pet you have to make sure that you use soap and warm water and make sure that you do not get soap into their eyes. Probably it is better to use a shampoo that is specifically designed to be gentle on the eyes in case you accidentally get it into their eyes.

It is necessary to rinse their coat twice if not more times in order to ensure that you removed all the soap. This is necessary since soap left in the dog's coat could result in dry skin. When you have taken them out of the bath you have to place them in a towel and apply light pressure all over the body and after that let them air dry the rest of the way.

What you Need To Know When Buying Cat Litter Boxes

Bookmark and Share
By Simon Alves

Don't settle for a litter box that is going to stink up your home and be hard to clean you have other options.

The simple pans that you fill with litter and clean when necessary are the best known type of kitty litter boxes. This type of litter box has many disadvantages which are well known. These types of litter boxes are wide open and so can offer no odor control. Some cats like having privacy so they prefer a covered litter box. Unlike some of the more advanced options, you have to clean the box yourself. Yet there are also a few benefits to this old fashioned litter pan. The most obvious benefit is it's cheaper than the other options and usually cost less than $20. They're also ideal if you have kittens or older cats who have trouble getting into more complicated boxes.

The most important thing about a cat box is its size. It's easy to run into problems when the size box you choose doesn't fit the cat you have. A cat is more likely to use the litter box if they can fit comfortably inside it and feel like they have enough space. Cats, just as litter boxes, come in all different sizes so you want a box that is made for the size you need. Make sure your cat can stand comfortably at full height in the litter box you choose. This is why it's important to get the right size regardless of style. The Complete Scoop Free Automatic Litter Box is a great option if you're looking for a self-cleaning litter box that you won't have to change for weeks at a time. As soon as your cat leaves the box, the waste is raked into a covered area, while the litter cartridge absorbs odors and moisture, so the typical litter box odors are kept to a minimum. One of the main advantages of this unit is that you can leave it untouched for up to 30 days without cleaning or refilling it. The kit comes with two litter cartridges and costs about $130. This model is a good option for a self cleaning litter box and isn't as expensive as others.

Many people who have multiple cats often wonder how many litter boxes they need. This will depend on several factors, such as how many cats you have, how well they get along and what they're used to. In general, it's best to have a separate litter box for each cat, but in some cases cats don't mind sharing a box. Each of your cats may prefer a different type of box. One cat may prefer the privacy of a covered box while another prefers using an open one. Once you figure out what works best, stick with it because cats don't like frequent changes.

The Booda Dome Clean Step Litter Box is cleverly designed litter box that solves many of the typical problems of many litter boxes without being too expensive. This box allows your cat privacy and is large enough for two cats to fit in. Your cats paws will stay cleaner and less litter will escape the box with the elevated ramp and unique design. You'll keep the odor out of your home with the air filter on this box. This Booda Dome Clean Step Litter Box only costs around $30 and offers many helpful features. There are, as we've seen in this article, a great many cat litter boxes to choose from nowadays. There are boxes that will match your home decor as well as remain functional as your cats bathroom. The more advanced units are automatic, if you're someone who really hates cleaning out litter boxes. Keep in mind that the more features you desire the higher price you will pay when deciding on a litter box that fits your budget and the needs of your cat.

Living Vicariously With Halloween Pet Costumes For Your Furry Friend

Would you rather be someone else? Not forever, just a little vacation? If even that is too bold, maybe your dog could help. Check out some adventures in vicarious living with Halloween pet costumes.

Do you love adventure? Turn your dog into a pirate! The black body and bold trim of the costume suggest aggression and excitement. Everybody knows that skull and crossbones means danger.

How about a romantic fantasy, the desire to drain every last drop of experience from life? Check out dogula. What could be more romantic than a black body with a red hood. Go ahead, the dog won't mind too much.

If you are frequently angry but have difficulty expressing it, then cat from hell might help. This costume works with a small dog too. Bright red with a pointed helmet suggesting horns embodies that don't mess with me feeling. Fortunately it doesn't come in large sizes. That could be scary.

Skeledog laughs at death. This rings of fearlessness, almost literally daredevil. Printed white bones with a black body is obviously a skeleton. However, since the legs and head are not covered, it's obviously not a real skeledog.

The magic spell dog costume is a good witch fantasy. The witch idea is evoked by the black conical hat, but everything else is attractive, magical looking and actually cute. This could express your disapproval of stereotypes. There are other good witch stories, but the thought of witches as ugly and evil could always use another refutation.

Playboy lil devil is a naughty boy, in a nice sense of the word. Combining the eternal rabbit's head playboy symbol with a red body, horns, and a tail makes the point clear. What a cute little devil!

If you believe that laughter is the best medicine, then laugh along with clown dog. The clown spirit comes through with the bright colors of the playful collar and conical hat. Show your fearless will by laughing at trouble.

Wonder woman? Wonder dog? Most people recognize that costume. What does it mean on a dog? Perhaps a superhuman ability to overcome all adversity?

How about a friendly ghost? Ghost dog doesn't really look scary, maybe it isn't even supposed to be a ghost. Red and yellow accents on white, the vest and conical hat are vaguely ghostlike but festive too. Could this be a guardian spirit?

Here we have a dog with shades, or is this Elvis? This is the modern version of immortality, the spirits of the famous linger on in stylistic remembrance. Your dog becomes a modern icon, a redneck rebel, sort of a pirate.

We haven't finished dogs with glasses, because now we come to Harry Potter. It's definitely Harry, if the glasses don't give it away, surely the Hogwarts emblem does. What kind of an icon is this? Maybe it's just an I like Harry icon.

Smurf's dog will close out our little exhibition. This would seem to be an agrarian fantasy. Little blue people living their peaceful lives out in the country. A pleasant, low key fantasy.

The world of Halloween pet costumes can be wondrous strange, if you open your eyes and look. This reading is highly subjective. You would probably enjoy imagining up one of your own. Pet costuming has a lot of potential for enhancing the Halloween experience.

Educate Your canine friend With Anti Bark Dog Collars

By George Cowley

Dogs barking might be a real bother, particularly at nighttime when you are hoping to get a great night's rest. This may be a source of conflict between neighbors. Additionally, there are some regulations which may be in place that prohibit dogs barking, and you'll find yourself constantly being penalized because your pet continues troubling the peace. You may be thinking how you will should be able to cease nuisance woofing in your dog. There is a quick yet helpful option for this, and this comes in the form of anti bark dog collars. It is not easy to train the dog to end woofing, because if you scold him for barking, once you're not in his presence he will continue this conduct. The solution is to look for an ever present discouraging factor for this behavior. Training collars that correct pets from continually barking may be of 2 kinds. The first corrects the behaviour by giving a static electrical charge to the canine's neck every time he barks. These devices have receptors that select the oscillations caused by the pet's vocal chords when barking. In this way your dog will receive correction for his bark and not because a different canine in close proximity is barking.

This gadget is beneficial because the canine will be taught to correlate the static electric charge to his bark. Once the animal has been trained, the training collar may even be removed. Several canines may however need to be retrained should they continue their persistent woofing. These devices are created to ensure that if the dog barks a few seconds after the 1st bark, the static electric charge will automatically increase in power. Your canine will therefore turn out to be acquainted with the static correction being delivered because of his woofing, gradually ending this behavior.

The other style of anti bark dog collar uses citronella, which is a moderate smelling spray, to discourage your pet from woofing. This training collar has a tiny microphone to pick up the sound of your pet dog barking, a container for the citronella spray, as well as a reservoir tank. When your canine barks the sensing unit will pick up the bark, and immediately deliver a citronella spray to your pup's snout. This is regarded as a much more gentle way of dog training to cease woofing, mainly because even though the canine friend may not like the smell of the spray it is relatively inoffensive.

Also, the citronella anti bark dog collars will not increase your puppy's fear as opposed to dog collars designed to use a static electric charge. A few dogs could even come to be aggressive if you utilize these types of collars. The spray dog collar is also effective compared to say an ultrasonic collar, which has a effectiveness which is no greater than 30 %. You could be wanting to know if you are reducing your canine's freedom of manifestation.

This is not the case due to the fact canines can easily communicate in various other ways. They can do this by mimicking, caresses as well as the poses that they assume. A puppy also shows joy and happiness by wagging its tail, and so barking is not the only way that a pet communicates.

Who doesn't love butterflies? Their elegance and beauty have captured us and have brought us to heaven. Flying from flower to flower, they long have signified evolution, harmony and the heart of traditions. They can also forecast the climate conditions. The old timers around here say that if the Wooly Bear caterpillar is furrier than normal, and has black bands on it, it will be a colder than normal winter.

Our yard is filled with many wisteria and every year butterflies gather around to smell the sweet fragrance of its blossoms. While gaiting in this garden of pure great gladness, it is not strange to have one light on your shoulder or close by.

Before known as the Butter-Colored Fly, was later identified as the "butterfly". All over the world, 28,000 genus of butterflies are known with their diversity and colors to go well with everyone. They have crystal clear, fragile wings and their existence ranges from an hour to a few days, to a few months, up to a year.

The environmental and climate changes are having an impact on butterfly diversity and numbers, causing a severe decrease in population. In some places, the caterpillar stage is coming too soon. Caterpillars have evolved into butterflies by the time the birds and their little ones are prepared to munch on them, giving the birds no choice but to look somewhere else for their dietary requirements of protein. The death of two species of butterflies was attributed to the unpredictable changes in worldwide temperature as indicated in several reviews. Bearing in mind this information, with reports referring that weather condition alterations have even a deeper affect on the butterfly population, why not built a butterfly garden?

Knowing the local butterfly species in your vicinity and the food that they eat is number one on your task list when planning to make a butterfly garden. Butterflies are picky - they have different preferences for nectar, both in color and taste. To invite a varied assortment of these delightful creatures, plant several food plants that flower all throughout the butterfly's life cycle, both wild and tame. Also, bear in mind of the various food requirements needed by the butterflies during their evolution phase, from the caterpillar phase to the adult butterfly phase. Because butterflies are poikilothermic, they love the sun's heat. Putting your garden in an open space and exposed to sunlight will surely liven them since the sun makes them more full of life. You can also put in some stones and rocks for that additional warmth. The Bee Balm, Butterfly Weed, Milkweeds, Joe Pye Weed, Phlox, Coneflowers, Queen Anne's Lace, and above all the Wisteria are what the butterflies in our garden fancy for. Learn to identify the wild plants in your yard, so they won't be destroyed as weeds. They are also a source of nourishment for the butterflies. Butterfly feeders are also offered in addition to their buffet of treats. They love over- ripe fruit and vegetation that is rotting and you can add these to the butterfly feeder. Butterflies also need water so set up a water source in the garden for them. Butterflies choose to drink on mud or wet sand as to an exposed water source. You can make a small area in your garden for them to perch on by wetting the grounds and placing in little sticks. Do not ever use pesticides in your butterfly garden.

Butterflies are sure to reciprocate your generosity by enchanting and delighting you during your visits in the garden. Start making your butterfly garden now! Start planting your garden now, the butterflies are waiting!

Raising Chickens In the City - Best Way To Begin If You Are Interested To Start A Chicken Farm

Bookmark and Share
By Bob Pearson

If you're interested in venturing on a small chicken farming home business, you can start by being a contract grower of a big supplier. Starting small by selling chicken eggs and meat to relatives, friends, and neighbors won't do the trick. Note that at this time, the key players of the poultry industry are already in place. If you want to make it big, get into a relatively huge farm raising chickens in city and learn the mazes of the business by being a grower.

Established chicken farms can serve the needs of big food businesses and corporations. These farms have their own breeding spaces, hatcheries, rearing coops, and slaughter houses. In other words, they are self-sufficient and can work on their own without difficulty in resources. They know what feeds to provide, what animal medications to use, how to improve the grow-out facilities, and how to manage people. Knowing how the business works will definitely train you on selling and raising chickens in city farms, handling business negotiations and keeping a network of industry contacts.

Because they mostly serve the needs of the biggest food companies, huge poultry farms sometimes cannot accommodate the demand of their clients, and because of this they have to partner with smaller chicken farming businesses that can provide steady supply of chicken meat. This is where the opportunity comes in. When you agree to become a partner grower of a poultry company, you will be offered a contract asking for a significant number of chickens you have to rear and deliver in exchange of a price. The contract will state the specific quantity of birds you have to provide, the price to be charged for each bird, and all other responsibilities that your business and the poultry farm must fulfill.

The best locations for raising chickens in city are areas within the vicinity of a huge poultry farm. Note that big-time suppliers want to be close to their partner growers as much as possible. So those home base businesses that is of a radius of a few kilometer-radius of the farm will definitely have an edge.

Also note that the location does not necessarily have to be scenic or countryside-like. The most important aspects in raising chickens in city are its nearness to coop construction dealers, its nearness to feed suppliers, its ready partnership with processing plants, as well as its adherence to local government rules on poultry raising and operations.

Important Pig Diseases That You Should Watch Out For - Keeping Pigs Healthy

Bookmark and Share
By Sarah Brown

While pigs are generally very healthy creatures, they can still get sick. You should consult with your veterinarian for a vaccination program that will prevent most common pig diseases from developing. Below are some pig diseases that your swine should be routinely inoculated against when you are raising pigs.

Atrophic rhinitis is a common disease characterized by inflammation of the pig's nasal tissues. When infected, the turbinate bones in the nose are damaged and may shrink or atrophy. When the disease becomes serious, however, inflammation is progressive and the nose becomes distorted, causing respiratory disease to develop. In the mild form of the disease, the inflammation does not progress and the turbinate bones eventually return to normal. Female pigs should be vaccinated before farrowing so they will pass on immunity to their piglets through their milk. Pigs should also be vaccinated twice before they are weaned.

E. Coli is a bacteria that causes diarrhea in piglets and is usually caused by fecal contamination of the living environment. Pregnant females should be vaccinated before farrowing.

Erysipelas is one of the most prevalent pig diseases, since it is caused by bacteria that are commonly found in most pig farms that pigs excrete through their saliva or waste products. This disease can cause death or compromise the health of the pig by causing heart infections or chronic arthritis. It can also stunt the growth of surviving pigs. Pregnant females should be inoculated before breeding. You should also vaccinate newly-bought feeder pigs if you are unsure if they have been inoculated.

Leptospirosis is a bacteria-borne disease that can easily spread throughout the herd if steps are not taken to prevent it. You can protect females from these pig diseases by vaccinating gilts before they are first bred and sows at every subsequent weaning. Infected vulnerable female pigs can spontaneously abort their litters.

Porcine Parvovirus is a virus that can multiply within the pig's intestine without showing outward symptoms. Pregnant sows should be protected by vaccination before breeding. It is a leading cause of reproductive failure through spontaneous abortion of the fetus. The parvovirus is difficult to eliminate from the pig's environment because it resists most disinfectants and can survive outside the pig for long periods of time.

Other common pig diseases that you should watch out for but not necessarily routinely vaccinate against, because it may not be cost-effective to do so, are Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, which causes pneumonia that cause sudden death or retard growth; Streptococcus suis, which causes nervous system disease that can result in chronic arthritis, stunting and heart infection; Salmonella, which can give pigs severe pneumonia or diarrhea.

How to Walk Your Dog

Bookmark and Share
By Regina T. Roby

Millions of dog owners walk their pets daily, yet very few have ever considered the right methods that can make this activity as pleasurable as possible. Usually considered a chore, dog walking for many owners is thought of as a necessary evil to be performed as quickly as possible in an effort to begin more urgent issues. Unfortunately this not only shortchanges the dog, but also the owner. By making some simple preparations and using several basic approaches, pet owners can make their dog walking experience much more pleasant. Let's consider a few ways that should work for each dog owner.

Get An Understanding of Pet Behavior

Prior to taking the dog for a stroll, there are a number of behavioral issues with which you should be acquainted to ensure a good experience. Perhaps the most critical one is that of command, or resolving the question of Who's the Leader? For an owner to be able to effectively control a dog's behavior and allow their pet the best walking experience possible, they need to establish a leadership position. The best way to accomplish this is to teach a dog to walk at heel alongside or behind its' master by employing positive reinforcement, such as treats, to reward the desired conduct. Once this has been accomplished, your dog will be more at ease and act more acceptably.

Find a Good Dog Walking Route

Frequently dog owners just grab their dog, a tether and head out of the door on their walk without much thought, but doing just a bit of planning will help. First, it's best to consider the reason for the walk before launching down the street. Is it a brief restroom break, an exercise walk, or a training hike? Certainly you need to plan your route appropriately. When exercising, it's ideal to select a space where your dog is less likely to interfere with bikers or others that could be easily disrupted. Furthermore, if you plan on focusing on some dog training, it's wise to select a location that may be without diversion. Regardless, selecting a place that fits the purpose is preferred.

Preparing for Your Walk

The way in which you get ready for your walk sets the tone for the whole experience, so it is essential to approach it in an orderly fashion. First, it is best to supply yourself with a 12 to 15 foot, non-retractable leash, as well as treats if you intend to do any training. Before setting out, have your dog sit calmly by your side before attaching any leash. It needs to be positioned high up the neck to maximize control with minimal effort. Some dogs (such as a Whippet or Italian Greyhound) may need a harness to avoid the collar slipping right off its neck when tugged. Continuing to the door, have the dog sit calmly next to the door; once opened you ought to lead the dog outside.

During the Walk

Leaving the home, it'll be necessary to keep track of your dog's behavior to ensure that it remains acceptable. Walking by your side or slightly behind, your dog should feel comfortable and the tether should be short and hang loosely. At times your dog may get distracted or excited and start pulling or walking in front of you. Should this occur, try to correct it with a soft tug, however, if the behavior continues you should have the dog sit and wait until it is calm again. Lastly, walk confidently since your dog can sense anxiety and will question your leadership. Although walking you dog requires some regular supervision, you'll find that both you and your dog will enjoy it more.

Sometimes regarded as an unpleasant chore, a walk can be much more enjoyable for both dog owners and their pets with some basic preparation. Having an understanding of dog conduct, finding the proper environment, preparing for the walk and then proper oversight during the walk, both owners and pets will see their regular walks far more enjoyable.

5 Foods You Should Never Feed Your Dog When Making Your Own Dog Food

By Paul Bridgeman

Dogs cannot eat all the same foods that are safe for humans (or even other animals) to consume. Some foods like onions and chocolate are outright poisonous to your dog, while others such as fish only become toxic in large amounts. Feeding your dog foods you're not positive about can result in severe organ damage. It takes almost no time at all to irreversibly damage your dog's kidneys by feeding it some surprisingly common treats. Make sure you know which foods are safe and which are potentially fatal before giving them to your pet. These are all foods commonly found in American homes that most people don't associate as being dangerous to animals. Most people know better than to feed their dog a Hershey bar... most people don't know a handful of grapes is dangerous and a handful of macadamia nuts is deadly. Always use caution when keeping these foods in the same home as animals (That bowl of fruit/nuts on the coffee table? *hint* *hint*).

Avocados

Fungicides Persin is a toxin present in the bark, fruit, leaves and seeds of the plant as a lawyer. Although not harmful to humans, animals, can cause severe diarrhea and vomiting. Whoever said that is not in Persin the lawyer tells a story. And, according to studies, eating is very good for the lawyers to fight against breast cancer. Why? It is because of the extraordinary amount of Persin in the fruit.

Grapes (and Raisins)

Small quantities of grapes can be harmful to the dog so keep this in mind when you make your own dog food. Toxic amounts, if 32 grams per kilogram of body weight of your dog weighs. Acute renal failure can occur at only three pounds of grapes. Symptoms of a future problem usually occurs several hours after ingestion, and often include diarrhea and vomiting. It 'important that your pet is seen as a veterinarian no more than two hours so that the medicine is given for nausea, vomiting attract the dog. If this program is not possible, the dog must be seen within two days of departure for both the absorption and activated charcoal and intravenous fluid therapy.

Mushrooms

Fungi are a major health risk to your pets if you spend a lot of time walking through parks, trails, or almost anywhere outside. If your pet takes a moment to themselves and a patch of mushrooms, you may as well be in trouble. Identify fungi or plants, if you can and try to collect a sample. This will allow your veterinarian to help your dog very quickly. The common symptoms of mushroom poisoning include salivation, indigestion and loss of coordination.

Macadamia Nuts

Macadamia nuts are highly toxic in dogs. 7 grams of them will kill a 10kg dog in about a day. Your pet will start to exhibit symptoms such as vomiting, lethargy, pale mucous membranes, and hyperthermia after 3-6 hours. This will progress into paresis of the hind limbs, joint stiffness, abdominal pain, and eventually death if left untreated. You should immediately induce vomiting. Afterwards take your dog to the vet to have activated charcoal administered, and have a gastric lavage performed. If the case is severe, the vet will hook your dog to an IV (to prevent dehydration) and keep it for monitoring.

Onions

Never ever give your dog onions regardless of the form it comes in. Onions are toxic to canines. Of course, that doesn't mean you need to panic if your loving canine friend eats a chopped onion from your floor, as it all boils down to the dog's size and the amount of onion consumed. Anemia is most often the cause of onion consumption, which means the body's red blood cells have been affected and ruptured. If you're unsure of how much onion the dog has consumed, take him/her to the vet right away. When you make your own dog food, it's a very good idea to do your research into what ingredients you should and should not use... for your canine friend's health and safety.

Tip #1: In raising pigs, the first thing that you have to acquire is land and housings for them. Pigs need well-ventilated pens that are made from hog wire, fencing hardware, and of course hay and other materials needed to keep their pens warm and clean. Make sure to bury the fence at least six inches below the ground before installing the hog wire. You may also want to install electrical fencing around your property.

For instance, you can search through the yellow pages for breeders or well-known businesses who sell and breed pigs as they will either sell you their stock or refer you to breeders who may be able to provide what you are looking for.

Tip #4: Though it is ideal to let pigs roam around outside of their pens, you should fence them in so that they won't get lost or damage anything else around the area. Pigs tend to explore and would even root the ground, so keep an eye on them and fence them in once it is time to bring them back to the pens.

Tip #5: Make sure that you supply a healthy diet so that your pigs will grow healthy and strong for the best meat. The ideal feeding routine when raising pigs is twice a day. Depending on the breed of pig, you may have to feed them either more aggressively or less to balance their food intake.
